Shogun Kunitoki, “Riddarholmen,” Vinonaamakasio (Fonal, 11 March 2009)

This band has really got me under their spell, as I’ve written recently. There is such power and clarity in their compositions, two things often lacking in so-called psychedelia (especially clarity!). This is where the best of minimalist composers like Reich and Glass meet with the best of instrumental rock bands. Not just loud, but meaningful. They make gorgeous sounds on gorgeous instruments. Makes me want to get on a plane to Helsinki, find these guys and learn at their feet.
