Sly & Robbie, “Computer Malfunction,” A Dub Experience (Mango, 1985)
Arguably the best rhythm section of all time, Sly & Robbie take the dub to glory here. Hard to believe this track is coming up on the 25th anniversary of its release— I remember finding this compilation at Pure Pop Records in Burlington, Vermont and keeping on repeat for weeks. The album saw the pair reworking some of their earlier work with various singers, and has been criticized in some corners for being too tame. Perhaps. But the signature Sly & Robbie minimalist snare and bass still gets me and I find it worth a revisit every time.
