Bubble Puppy, “I’ve Got to Reach You,” A Gathering of Promises (International Artists, originally released 1969, reissue 2008)

Bubble Puppy was second to only the legendary 13th Floor Elevators on the International Artist’s roster in the late 60s. Their first single was the Hendrix-inspired “Hot Smoke & Sasafrass,” a well-anthologized brain melter. Less acid-psych, less garage and less raw than the 13th Floor Elevators or The Golden Dawn, IA’s hottest other band, this was the band’s only album and received well-deserved and loving reissue treatment last year.

“I’ve Got to Reach You” is the third track on the album and shows Bubble Puppy’s superb blend of off-kilter rock, psych, folk, ornamentation, orchestration, harmonized fuzz guitar, goodness.
