As a tonic to James Houston’s mechanical interpretation of Radiohead’s “Nude,” witness this entirely analog performance of Aphex Twin’s “Avril 14th” by “Hugo” (www.myspace.com/hugonitram). Yes, this song is one of AT’s more analog-productions to begin with, but this is a terrific translation and extricates Aphex Twin from blips and bleeps and proves the melodies we already knew were there. Right?

Listen to the original then and focus on the sound of the hammers hitting the strings. It is as if your head is inside the piano, and the melody washing percussively through your head.
