Meg Baird, “Moving Up a Ways,” We are all one, in the Sun: A Tribute to Robbie Basho (Important Records, 2010)

Aptly named Important Records releases this tribute compilation to the tragically late, great Robbie Basho. The disk begins and ends with inspirations/variations by Steffan Basho-Junghans. Appropriate enough, and masterful as expected. Meg Baird haunts us as usual with her gorgeous ethereal voice and completely swirling, meditative guitar playing on this track. Other contributions come from her Espers bandmate Helena Espvall and Boston’s Glenn Jones, whose track “1337 Shatuck Avenue, Apartment D” proves his absolute essential power with the guitar.
