Buck Owens, “Who’s Gonna Mow Your Grass,” 1969.

Odd-angled love songs are the best. Owens gives us a great example, complete with a ripping fuzzy guitar lead, straight outta 1969. So many of the lyrics are surreal: “who’s gonna jump when you say frog, who’s gonna bow and scrape,” “who’s gonna hold to your hand, who’s gonna chop your candle and wood,” of course culminating in “who’s gonna mow your grass,” followed by that fuzz guitar that almost sounds like the lawnmower buzzing up and down in front of the house.
