Smog & Joanna Newsom, “Sycamore,” SXSW at the Presbyterian Church, May 2007

Listen to the way Callahan uses his instrument (voice) to manipulate his meaning (words). The repetitions of the arpeggios, against the descending passages of Newsom’s piano, watch as the lyrics become enwtined and enclose on themselves. Really gorgeous.
